Stages Learning Materials’ products all feature beautiful, colorful, real-photo images to capture a child’s attention and engage their minds. Stages photo flash card sets, games, puzzles and posters offer a broad assortment of images to teach a wide range of language skills. There are cards that are identical to teach pre-language matching, cards to teach categorization and similarities, color cards, shape cards, and beautiful picture cards for language development. Stages products are found in pre-schools, day care centers, early childhood classrooms, autism programs, speech language programs, and homes around the world.

Language development happens in stages. Children learn to match objects first (“put apple with apple”), then to identify objects receptively (“give me the apple”), and finally to identify objects expressively (“what is it?” “it is an apple”). Our products are created to stimulate learning at each stage of language development.

We have always carried a small number of inspirational products in our store. However, we now have even more. We have added to what we already have in stock from Northstar Teacher Resources, a Michigan-based publisher of classroom decorative products such as posters, bulletin board sets, bookmarks and awards. We also brought in eighty titles from Rainbow Publishers, who specialize in reproducible books for today’s Sunday school teachers. We are very excited about all of these products. Here is a small sampling of the new products.

Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts in 2012, a lavishly illustrated account of the fascinating life of the woman who started it all.

First Girl Scout: The Life of Juliette Gordon Low
Author: Ginger Wadsworth
Published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s Book Group
Age Level: 9 and up | Grade Level: 4 and up
$17.99 Hardcover

Juliette (Daisy) Gordon Low was a remarkable woman with ideas that were ahead of her time. She witnessed important eras in U.S. history, from the Civil War and Reconstruction to westward expansion to post-World War I and she made history by founding the first national organization to bring girls from all backgrounds into the out-of-doors. Daisy created controversy by encouraging them to prepare not only for traditional homemaking but also for roles as professional women-in the arts, sciences, and business-and for active citizenship outside the home. Her group also welcomed girls with disabilities at a time when they were usually excluded. Includes author’s note, source notes, bibliography, timeline, places to visit, the Girl Scout Promise and Law, and musical notation for the favorite scout Song “Make New Friends.”

Simpatico™ Board and Card Game
Retail Price: $15.99

2 – 4 Players • Ages 7 to Adult

There’s more than one way to the top…
Each player’s turn starts with nine cards face up on the board. The object is to move as many cards as possible to the top row, where they’re worth points. Players move cards by placing them on top of other cards with which they share at least two characteristics – color, creature, or quantity. Each turn consists of a quick series of moves by the same player, and the order in which you make those moves can determine whether you win or lose!

Simpatico™ Playing time: about 10 minutes per game

Price: $24.95

DABBLE, the hottest new word game in 2011! DABBLE is the kind of game that is as simple as it is challenging. It rewards players with quick wits, a large vocabulary, and perfect spelling. You have to be on your toes, since the goal of the game is to spell out five separate words with just 20 letters as quickly as possible. The trick is that the five words must be comprised of a two-letter, three-letter, four-letter, five-letter, and six-letter word.

DABBLE provides fun for the entire family. Not only does it provide a challenge for the savvy speller, but it is the ultimate way to make learning fun for younger children.

At the core of the game lies a fast-paced word game that will help children develop many useful skills including vocabulary, spelling and the ability to think quickly under pressure.

This is an exciting and challenging family game that provides hours of fun for two to four players.

The rules of the game are simple. Each player selects 20 lettered tiles and must be the first person to spell 5 different words (a 2 letter, 3 letter, 4 letter, 5 letter and 6 letter word) in five minutes.

The first player to do this will score points for tiles left unused by his/her opponents. The first player to score 100 points wins the game.

To make the game a little easier for new spellers, simply remove or extend the timer or omit the 5 and 6 letter word requirement.

This game has a hint of Scrabble about it but there are a couple of nice things about this game over the Scrabble board game. Dabble gives a time limit per turn of only 5 minutes to come up with a long word, this means that unlike Scrabble (when the timer isn’t used)the game doesn’t drag on. In addition to that there is no point scoring, what this means is that the game is much quicker to play and for that reason is a little more fun.

DABBLE Wins Prestigious 2011 PAL AWARD – (PAL Stands for Play Advances Language)

Many ages had lots of fun playing and learning DABBLE. Your creativity, hard work, and developmental focus is evident in this outstanding game. The PAL Award is the only industry recognition focusing on the best toys, games and books that not only entertain, but also inspire kids and caregivers to engage in rich communication and interaction. In a world that runs on words, finding fun ways to build kids’ speech and language early on is invaluable to their future academic success.

DABBLE has rightfully earned its fair share of praise, including the following awards:
•Dr. Toy’s 10 Best Games 2011
•Dr. Toy’s 100 Best Children’s Products 2011
•Creative Child Magazine’s Word Game of The Year 2011
